Your Dog Will Tell You

Posted by Scott Pollak on

Still watching Fido doing something that’s ticking (no pun intended) you off? Went back and forth to the vet and still a little better, but not really? Really, keep reading the information at this site and you’ll see what’s right for you. Your dog does a wonderful job of diagnosing and treating himself. I am sure you have observed your dog scratching, nibbling, licking or biting at different parts of his body. Your dog is telling you something. (Allergy Trio) He instinctively knows how to treat himself. If the behavior happens once or twice, there is no need for concern. But,...

Vitamins and Minerals

Posted by Scott Pollak on

There are 2 types of vitamins: water-soluble and fat-soluble. Your dog needs both. B and C are water- soluble. ( B & C) This means any excess is filtered through the kidneys and urinated out after ingestion. Because of this, they must be present in every meal. C is needed for healthy teeth and gums. B is needed for energy, breaking down protein and promoting biochemical reactions in the body. Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat-soluble, meaning they are stored in the fatty tissue of the body and the liver and so do not need to be consumed at...

Cats And Exercise

Posted by Scott Pollak on

Are you worried about whether your cat should be more active? During the Winter, it can be increasingly difficult to encourage even the most active indoor/outdoor cat to move around. Once they feel that freezing cold air, they’re running away to hide. Cats are blessed with a high metabolism, so unlike us, they can get away with sleeping all day. But, they do still need exercise, just like we do. It tones their muscles, helps them to maintain their body weight and keeps their minds occupied (so there’s less chance they’ll be pulling up the carpet!) Try to play with...

What Are Parasites And How Are They Transmitted?

Posted by Scott Pollak on

Parasites can be microscopic like fungi, protozoa, bacteria or viruses. But, they also come in larger varieties in the form of roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, flatworms, fleas, and ticks. There are some parasites that are harmless to pets and there are varieties of them that your pet will live with all their lives (we have them too!) But some parasites can be harmful to your pet. They will live on or in the body of your pet and can cause sickness within living tissue and even organs. The reason they are so harmful is that they secrete toxins and enzymes that...

What You Need To Know About Exercising Your Dog

Posted by Scott Pollak on

During the colder months it might be tempting to skip on walking the dog. We all know that feeling when you look out of the window and the rain is pouring down. You just want to curl up with your dog rather than going outside into the cold. When our pets are confined indoors they’re not getting the exercise they need and are more likely to do things they shouldn’t just to occupy their time.  Exercise is crucial for a pet’s health. It’s simple. Eat good food and exercise regularly: that’s the key to a healthy life. So, is your...

Go Take A Hike!

Posted by Scott Pollak on

Pets are not designed to lounge on an apartment couch all day. They need to run, jump, and play to stay healthy… even if we don’t feel like taking them out because it is cold, raining, or we have other things to do. But, they rely on us for their most basic exercise needs. Adequate exercise is essential for increasing oxygen, dispelling cellular toxins, increasing blood flow, strengthening muscles, reducing body fat and even stabilizing moods.  So, make sure you get out at least 30 minutes a day. Take a run.  Stroll through the park. Toss a ball.  Set a...
